The Black Nonbeliever Initiative

Mandisa Thomas joins us on the Mythicist Milwaukee Show

Mandisa Thomas is the founder and current president of Black Nonbelievers Inc. Black Nonbelievers Inc. is a non-profit fellowship of nonbelievers headquartered in the Atlanta area that is dedicated to providing an informative, caring, festive and family friendly environment. Black Nonbelievers Inc. strives to connect with African Americans who are living free of religion and irrational beliefs, and might otherwise be shunned by family and friends. Instead of accepting dogma, they seek to determine truth and morality through reason and evidence. Black Nonbelievers Inc. welcomes everyone regardless of sex, sexuality, gender identity, age, national origin or race.

Mandisa was born and raised in New York City and has lived in Atlanta since 1998. Although never formally indoctrinated into religious belief, she was heavily exposed to Christianity and Islam. Mandisa is a graduate of the famous LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts, and attended Queens College located in Kew Gardens Hills in the borough of Queens in New York City.

Mandisa shares with us her vision for Black Nonbelievers Inc. and the many projects that she and her organization are working on. She explains how she became involved in the secular community and why it is an important initiative.
