Khalaf Hamo Smoqi came to the United States from Sinjar, Iraq two and half years ago. On August 3rd , when the Islamic State attacked the Yazidis in Sinjar, he and the Yazidi community in USA went to Washington DC to hold a rally in front of the White House. They met with Ben Rhodes, the President’s top National security adviser, as a result, the president agreed on air strike to stop ISIS advances and air drops of humanitarian food and water for the people who fled ISIS and were on the mountain.
His work started as an activist when he and some other activists stayed in Washington after the rally and coordinated between people on the mountain and the State Department, we worked closely to make sure people on the mountain get the aid.
Currently, he is a part of a Yazidi network of activists on social media and a couple of Organizations (Yazda.org , and initiative of Yazidis around the world) as well as some other organizations based on Iraq to help Yazidis (the abducted and the displaced) as much as they can.
