WASHINGTON, DC - The Reason Rally announced today that members of hip-hop powerhouse Wu-Tang Clan will be the headliners for their program on Saturday, June 4 in Washington, DC.
Members of our own Mythicist Milwaukee (MM) clan played a central role in arranging the Reason Rally contract that will bring the legendary rappers to the Lincoln Memorial later this spring.
Wu-Tang affiliate Killah Priest (aka Walter Reed) was the keynote speaker at MM's Mythinformation Conference II in fall of 2015.
"Our team formed a bond with KP and really connected with him about the importance of spreading the message that it's okay to be openly secular," says MM board member and podcast host Rob Moore. "We kept in touch after the conference and talked about collaborating with him on other events in the secular world."
At the conference, the MM team recorded an interview with Killah Priest in which he declared himself to be "openly secular" for the first time. This interview was picked up and shared by Openly Secular, which in turn sparked the interest of The Reason Rally.
In the end, the connection led to a near full-clan reunion, with Killah Priest being joined by GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, and Cappadonna, in an unprecedented mash-up of hip-hop culture and the secular movement.
Moore comments, "At Mythicist Milwaukee, we strive to contribute to a world free from religious oppression and sectarian bigotry. This is reflected in the lyrics of the Wu-Tang Clan, as well as the message being spread by The Reason Rally. We're honored to support the mission of the Reason Rally and be an ally to their team."
Members of the Mythicist Milwaukee team are helping to organize many aspects of the upcoming rally, from entertainment coordination and social media promotion to customer service and e-mail support. Join the Mythicist Milwaukee team at The Reason Rally in June! Speak up for Reason!
